Kendall is being fostered in Delhi, ON.
Birthdate: March 18, 2018
Kendall (F) is an 5yo German Shepherd. She is currently living with her foster parents, 2 cats and 8 canine foster siblings.
Kendall is house and crate trained. She goes into her crate on command and is well behaved while crated in her normal routine. However, Kendall can be restless, vocal and insecure with changes in her routine. She would do best in a calm and consistent environment with an experienced adopter.
Kendall is very anxious and insecure around other dogs and would prefer a quieter environment to call her own. On intake she stayed at a kennel and was very avoidant of most other dogs, but played well with well-balanced dogs. Proper introductions and a strong focus on calm co-existence at the beginning of building a relationship is key for Kendall. When meeting a new dog her immediate reaction is to go to her handler for direction and support. She tends to avoid other dogs but if they pester her she will appropriately correct them. With slow introductions, Kendall can make canine friends and gets along well with the 8 dogs she is currently living with. Kendall has met a few cats and has been appropriate so far, just sniffing and leaving them alone in a structured environment, however she has also been reactive to another cat she lived with for a while.
Kendall loves her people and just wants to please, but she can be insecure and reactive meeting new people, and needs an experienced adopter who can advocate for her around her people. She does not like strangers putting pressure on her and needs confident building in new situations. Within a few minutes of meeting new people she is very affectionate, looking for tummy rubs, and eager to please! Kendall did well at the vet for two of her vaccines, but needed to be held by her people for the third shot. Kendall would do best with confident and more experienced dog owners who can read her body language and advocate for her and have a good understanding of pressure. She can also be defensive for her people if people are touching them, so she would do best with lots of advocating around visitors. She would do best in a home without children or with older children who actively participate in training so they they do not accidentally apply pressure inappropriately.
Kendall is a typical German Shepherd who prefers her own space and her group of people, rather than being a social butterfly to sit on patios! A furever home with German Shepherd experience would be ideal! She is a high energy girl who loves to please!
Kendall would do best with a confident handler who can advocate for her and continue her training. She is a very loving and sweet girl when she has a leader, but with a nervous handler can be insecure. She would excel in a home that would work with her on basic training and advocate for her in new environments to build her confidence.
